A new Nintendo Switch is reportedly planned. Releasing as early as 2019.
According to a report from the The Wall Street journal (subscription is required), a new version of the Nintendo Switch is on the way. The new version could release as soon as the second half of 2019. The report cities suppliers and “others with direct knowledge of the plan” as sources.
The Nintendo Switch has been Nintendo’s most successful console for a while, since it’s initial release back in March 2017. Recent reports claim that sales of the Switch are approaching 20 million units worldwide. However, many of these reports also claim that sales have been losing momentum. An updated version of the console, might be what Nintendo needs in order to kick start sales again.
Nintendo has been known to upgrade their consoles in the past, so the report doesn’t really come as much of a surprise. After the 3DS, Nintendo introduced the 3DS XL, followed by the 2DS, and eventually, new versions of all three consoles.
Details about the reported new version of the console are scarce. One of the areas under consideration for an upgrade is the 6.3-inch 720p LCD display. New software features are also under consideration.
Unsurprisingly, there has been no official comment from Nintendo.
