SILVER UNIT 1 ARTS AWARD
- IDENTIFY AND PLAN AN ARTS CHALLENGE
- PLAN A 3D DRAWING THAT YOU WILL EVENTUALLY PRINT AS A MODEL
I currently have very little experience in 3d modelling i feel confident but have not had much involvement in the field. 3D modelling is very time consuming which i can find challenging as i have a low concentration rate. 3D modelling is much more about logistics than other aspects of 3D design because its output is not a final product like a visual of a 3D object. Instead, it’s a mathematical representation of that object, explaining how that object is put together. The base knowledge i will need to gain is learning technical drawing of my chosen design and to acquaint myself with the maya program. I feel my level of drawing is reasonably high but would like to improve. I am confident in my measuring skills and using angles. The thing i feel i will need to work on most is working with the computer programs used to design our models.
Hints: Why have you chosen to take on the EOB course, what do you like about the challenges here, why develop your own 3D model? What model have you decided to develop?
Action Plan, detailing – how will you implement your challenge
MY MODEL AND WHY
The challenge i have been set is to design and make a 3d model of my choosing from the beginning using technical drawing and design then registering with maya to familiarize myself with the maya interface through to producing a 3D asset of my model. For my challenge i have chosen to produce a model of a pyramid i have decided to use a pyramid as it is a simple shape to use to familiarize myself with the workings of the maya program without being overloaded with information too soon as i have very little knowledge in the area at this time.
Day 1 + 2 – Technical drawing – We were asked to pick a model of our choice and create an orthographic drawing of our object. – I enjoyed learning orthographic drawing and can imagine myself using it a lot in future projects.
Day 3 – 3D design and 3D modelling – we were asked to pick another model of our choosing to use as our final product i chose to use a pyramid. – I chose a pyramid so that i could concentrate on learning the basics of the program without it being to much to take in at once.
Day 4 – Starting to get acquainted with maya – we put our orthographic drawings into maya and learnt the basics of using polygons – this was fun and not as daunting as i had expected it to be.
Day 5 – Get my model uploaded to maya.

THIS IS MY FIRST ATTEMPT AT TECHNICAL DRAWING
I was very happy with my first try but i still have lots of areas to improve on.
