In this review of State of Decay 2, I’m going to be talking about the gameplay and some of the mechanics and a little about the story, then my thoughts as a whole.
The mechanics of State of Decay 2 are very interesting because of the Traits system. What Traits do is they let each of your members within your community become unique, some can add or effect Skills such as Computing, Medicine and Gardening. Now, if your community members have some of these Skills then, for example, they will be able to provide you with food from Gardening while others like Medicine will allow you to heal your wounded members and craft meds. Combining these Traits together to make the perfect community is something you are going to be striving for within this game. Also, how you go about levelling up Traits is very simple, for example, there is a Trait called Fighting; all you have to do to level this Trait up is kill zombies by meleeing them. When you fully level up a Trait, your character becomes specialised, like in terms of Fighting you can make them efficient in using blunt weapons or sharp weapons.
Another mechanic in State of Decay 2 is the communities. You can choose to help different communities within your game, in doing this you can become friendly then allied with them giving you benefits like increased morale or radio commands like calling in meds and other supplies. You can even choose to recruit one of the members into your own community if they are allied. However, there is also an opposite to this; if you don’t help out the community and ignore them, they can become cold or hostile towards you meaning they will attack you if they see you and you will end up killing them (at least they give you free loot).
Now lets talk about the gameplay within State of Decay 2, it’s very interesting because there is a few ways in which you can play. Either being silent by sneaking into houses looting and killing silently with suppressors. Then there is the other way by running in guns blazing. There is just a bigger incentive to play the game silently because it is much easier and if you mess up in State of Decay 2, you have to live with that decision because it is permanent. Another big gameplay feature is the addition of multiplayer, you can play up to 4 players in one game and for the people that have joined in on the game, all the loot is separate and you can take that loot back with you into your own game.
Last thing on the list is the story, there isn’t really much in the way of story within the second game unlike the first one because the outbreak has already happened it’s just about you surviving in your area and making it safe.
To conclude, I would strongly recommend this game if you play it alone or with friends but keep in mind when you play this game with friends it is so much more enjoyable and fun. If you are a person that is a fan of The Walking Dead, State of Decay 2 is basically that but put into a game, that is the easiest way to describe it. The only issue is some bugs and problems besides that this game is good.
